\ud83c\udf31\u267b\ufe0f A talk organized by the Municipality of Foggia as part of the initiatives\u00a0 \u201cThe new Sustainable City” took place on 24th March 2025 at the \u201cGate & Gusto Fair<\/em><\/a>\u201d <\/em>in Foggia, an important annual event for the province dedicated to food, tourism and local agrifood business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf99\ufe0f The talk, titled \u201cCircular economy and the fight against food waste: tools and good practices for sustainable rural development\u201d<\/em>, involved Mariantonietta Fiore<\/strong> and Fedele Colantuono<\/strong> from the Department of Economics of the University of Foggia<\/em>, together with Gustavo Vassalli<\/strong> (Director of the food bank \u201cBanco Alimentare della Daunia<\/em>\u201d), Francesco Sansone<\/strong> (Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato of Foggia<\/em>) and Assunta di Matteo<\/strong> (multifunctional farms \u201cRete Fattorie Sociali\u201d<\/em>), with the participation of over 40 people, including students, representatives of local institutions, organizations and companies in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole talk was moderated by the journalist Danila Paradiso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc65 The representatives of the Department of Economics, after introducing the key concepts of sustainable development for agri-food<\/strong> and the Department’s commitment to a multi-level and multi-actor approach with the various representatives of the territory, shared some of the concrete tools<\/strong> and initiatives<\/strong> in the field, such as the various National and European projects in which they are involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting by illustrating the role of the Department in preparing training materials <\/strong>that bring students closer to the issues of environmental sustainability in a creative way (Erasmus+ CL4Bio<\/a> project), towards professional growth<\/strong> with a cultural background linked to the territory<\/strong>, becoming future experts and promoters of local excellence<\/strong> (Erasmus+ ENGINE<\/a> project). The presentation continued with the importance of the role of advisorsand systems for the exchange of knowledge and good practices between operators in the local agri-food supply chain<\/strong> (short and zero km) through a European short food supply chain advisory network<\/strong> (Horizon COREnet<\/a> project).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf0d It was also underlined the frutiful cooperation with the local food bank (Banco Alimentare della Daunia) within CL4Bio project on the training actvities involving UniFg students in socio-practical experience on the field of food recovery and circular economy principles. The significance of circular economy training in agrifood business were enriched by the contributions and testimonies of the other speakers who, thanks to their social commitment<\/strong>, reiterated the importance of multifunctional agriculture<\/strong> and inclusive social farms<\/strong>, on circular economy<\/strong> and social awareness activities in the recovery and donation <\/strong>of food products to people in need<\/strong>, activating paths of change for the local community for the common good, with more sustainable and shared models<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
